The Apple Thunderbolt Display was the last of the Cinema Display run released in 2011 and not being discontinued until 2016. The updated connection to the display brought increased IO which now included ethernet as well as USB and Firewire. The death of the Thunderbolt Display came due to the Touchbar MacBook release and Apple no longer using Thunderbolt 2 opting for USB-C / Thunderbolt 3 using a different connector.
