The fourth-generation cellular iPad broadened LTE compatibility in late 2012, alongside the standard iPad’s move to Lightning. A6X replaced A5X for more processing and graphics headroom, while the improved front camera made FaceTime calls clearer. Lightning replaced the 30-pin connector, bringing a smaller reversible plug but requiring different cables or adapters for older accessories. The Retina screen and substantial body remained familiar, so this was mainly an internal and connection update. The Wi-Fi-only fourth-generation iPad shared the A6X upgrade and Lightning connector around wireless networks.
