The fourth-generation Wi-Fi iPad arrived later in 2012, replacing the third generation only months after its Retina display had been introduced. A6X replaced A5X for more processing and graphics headroom, while the improved front camera made FaceTime calls clearer. Lightning replaced the 30-pin connector, bringing a smaller reversible plug but requiring different cables or adapters for older accessories. The Retina screen and substantial body remained familiar, so this was mainly an internal and connection update. The cellular fourth-generation iPad added mobile data with region-dependent LTE support.
