The cellular iPad mini 2 combined LTE with the small iPad’s move to a Retina display in 2013. Its A7 chip also introduced 64-bit processing, bringing the mini closer to the full-size Air in capability rather than treating size as a performance compromise. The familiar 7.9-inch format remained easy to carry, although the body grew slightly thicker and heavier to accommodate the changes. Touch ID was still absent, so unlocking relied on the passcode. The Wi-Fi-only iPad mini 2 delivered the sharper screen and A7 chip around wireless networks.
