The Wi-Fi iPad mini 3 was a modest 2014 update, adding Touch ID to the mini 2’s familiar Retina design. Fingerprint unlocking made everyday access more convenient, and a gold finish joined the range. The A7 chip and Retina screen carried over, so there was no new level of processing performance or display sharpness. Its appeal centred on convenience rather than a major hardware change. The cellular iPad mini 3 added mobile data to the Touch ID-equipped mini.
