Here we explain exactly how it works, what we inspect and the different ways you can upgrade with us.Jump To A SectionCredit & TimingTrade-in FirstBuy FirstFinance & Part Exchange10% Bonus ExplainedRefunds & Payment MethodsWhy Values ChangeOur Inspection ProcessWear & Tear ExplainedAccessories & What’s IncludedFaulty, Locked & Liquid-Damaged DevicesShipping & ProtectionData & Device WipingRevised Valuations & ReturnsResponse TimesEligible Devices When Does My Credit Become Available? This is probably the most common question we receive.Your part-exchange value cannot be used until we have physically received and inspected your device. An online quote is an estimate based on the information submitted and current market conditions. While a quote sits in your basket, it remains dynamic and can change each time you open it.Once you submit your trade-in to us, your quote becomes fixed for 30 days, subject to inspection and verification.Sending Your Device Before PurchaseThis is the route many customers choose if they would prefer not to pay the full amount upfront. Submit your trade-in Send your Apple device to us We inspect and confirm the valuation Your store credit is added You place your order using the credit. You do not need to pay the full purchase price before upgrading. You may experience some downtime while your current machine is being inspected and your new one is arranged. Buy First, Trade-In AfterwardsIf avoiding downtime is important, this is usually the most popular option. Many customers choose to purchase their replacement device first and send their trade-in afterwards. Place your order Receive your new device Send your current Apple device to us We inspect and confirm the valuation Your trade-in amount is refunded to your payment methodYou can move across to your new machine with minimal interruption. We can also hold your order while the trade-in is completed if you would like us to do your data transfer. Just let our team know. Generally, we ship straight away unless otherwise requested. Using Finance With Part-ExchangeMany customers combine part-exchange with our finance options. Some choose:Pay in 30% over 4 months0% over 6, 12, 18 or 24 monthsThis allows you to secure your replacement device immediately and then send your trade-in afterwards.Once your trade-in has been received and approved, the refund is applied back against your payment method. For finance customers, this means the refund is typically applied to your outstanding balance, which can reduce your monthly payments considerably. Some customers even choose to pay the finance off entirely once the refund has been applied. Our 10% Part-Exchange Bonus ExplainedThere is often confusion between a cash trade-in and a part-exchange.Here’s the difference.Cash Trade-InIf you are simply selling your device to us for cash, no bonus will be applied.Part-Exchange / Order RefundIf you:take store credit, ortrade-in against a previous or current MacFinder orderYou qualify for an extra 10% bonus. This bonus is shown on your estimate. However, because final values are confirmed during inspection, the true 10% calculation is completed once the trade-in is approved. If a valuation changes after inspection, your 10% bonus is still to the new confirmed value and recalculated. Where Does My Refund Go?Refunds are returned to the same payment method used for your order.FinanceRefunded against your outstanding balanceDebit or credit cardReturned to the same cardPayPalReturned to your PayPal balanceApple Pay or Google PayReturned to the original card usedBank transferDeposited back into your bank accountPlease note that to process a refund against an order, the payment date must be within 60 days. After this point, the valuation can only be issued as store credit. Why Can Valuations Change?Your online quote is based on the information submitted and assumes the device matches the condition and specification entered. We can only inspect what we physically receive. Once your device arrives, our technicians verify:SpecificationCosmetic conditionFunctionalityBattery conditionHardware authenticityAccessoriesSecurity LocksBecause of this, the final valuation may differ from the original estimate. This can work both ways. It is not uncommon for values to increase. Some customers unknowingly submit a base specification when they actually have upgraded RAM, storage or processor configurations, which is always great for us to discover because we get to pay more for something better.Likewise, values can sometimes decrease if:Cosmetic wear is heavier than describedFaults are discoveredAccessories are missingThe specification differs from the submissionOur aim is always to offer a fair and competitive valuation. What Do We Actually Inspect? Many people are surprised by how detailed our inspection process is. Clean the screen with a microfibre cloth, turn the display off, turn the light on in your room and shut the curtains. As you move the screen around if you can only see streaks, your screen isn’t clean enough. If you cannot you may seen outlines of your keyboard and small divots as the main light in your room refracts.Lamination wear can be difficult to spot at home, they are a common reason for revised valuations. What Needs To Be Included?Your trade-in should include everything originally supplied with the device.MacBooksiMacsOlder models included the charger and charging cable.Newer models only require the charging cable as that is all they were shipped with originally. All 24-inch iMacs are supplied with colour matches keyboard and mice which if excluded will affect your valuation. For the above and any other devices, the absence of original accessories may reduce the valuation. If you have purchased additional genuine Apple accessories, we may also be able to offer payment for these!Faulty, Liquid-Damaged, or Locked DevicesFaulty MacsLiquid DamageDEP, MDM & Activation LockWe assess these on a case-by-case basis.Where possible, we:Quote for repair workDeduct this from the valuationIf a device is uneconomical to repair, we will let you know.Unfortunately, we do not purchase liquid-damaged devices. They carry significant reliability risk and can fail unpredictably. We cannot purchase devices that are:Activation LockedDEP enrolledMDM managedIf a device arrives enrolled on DEP or MDM, we may attempt to identify and contact the registered organisation.Trade-ins cannot be completed until these restrictions are removed. If a device arrives enrolled on DEP or MDM, we may attempt to identify and contact the registered organisation.
