The 2023 Mac Pro completed Apple’s move from Intel to Apple silicon, pairing M2 Ultra with a case built around internal expansion. PCIe slots remained valuable for audio, video capture, networking and specialist storage cards, while eight Thunderbolt 4 ports supported extensive external equipment. Unlike the 2019 Intel Mac Pro, it used unified memory and integrated graphics, so the familiar tower did not mean upgradeable RAM or support for separate graphics cards. Its purpose was combining Apple silicon processing with workflows that still depended on PCIe hardware.
